What’s this site all about?

I started this website mainly as a way to display my projects. When I start a project, I’ll post about it. When the gardening season starts, I’ll post about what I am planting and how it grows. Once harvest comes around and I start canning, I will take you along with me. This website is a place to come and see what I am up to.

I first started with the garden.

About 10 years ago, I stopped working. We had just bought a house and I was focused on turning a standard yard into a nature garden, a biotope where I could grow vegetables but also provide homes for lots of bees and insects and other critters. I also wanted to decrease my dependence on “the system” and started learning about canning and preserving. Then winter came and I looked around for a way to busy myself inside. That is when I discovered bobbin lace-making and dove into that hobby with all my enthusiasm.

As you may have experienced yourself, once you enter the world of handicrafts, a universe of possibilities kind of opens up and you discover other activities of interest. That is how I stumbled across Chicken Scratch, a type of embroidery done on gingham fabric. This led to discovering Sashiko, a Japanese stitching technique. And, most recently, I have discovered the joy of what I call “drawing with thread”: free embroidery.

Head on over to My Portfolio of Projects and check out the projects I’ve done over the past years. If you are interested in seeing what I am working on right now, click on What’s New. That will take you to the most recent project.
